We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Bryant and Ungar groups to test innovative ideas aimed at optimising production of therapeutic antibodies by cultured cells. Recombinant antibodies offer some of the most effective targeted therapeutics for a wide range of diseases, such as arthritis and cancer. They are manufactured using cultured cell lines, but production can be highly inefficient, limiting their availability to patients. We are currently investigating new molecular approaches that are designed to improve the sustained expression of therapeutic transgenes. Building on this you will develop a systematic programme of synthetic bioengineering aimed at increasing the capacity of secretory pathway and altering the glycosylation potential so the cells can secrete large amounts of appropriately glycosylated antibodies.
This position provides exciting opportunities to work in a creative academic environment on a strategically important project that will employ state-of-the-art cell, molecular and synthetic biology methods.
You will have a relevant PhD and strong skills in molecular and cell biology. Experience with membrane biology, protein sorting, glycbiology and/or synthetic biology will be beneficial. You will gain understanding of high impact, cutting-edge research at the interface of academia and industry.
The post is full time and available for 28 months from March 1st 2018. Starting salary will be within the range £31,604 - £32,548 per annum, depending on relevant experience.
