Role Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Hull York Medical School (HYMS) as the School’s Executive Officer. The post is an ideal opportunity for an experienced administrator looking to move into a management role. You will provide a wide-ranging experience of working in a medical school across two Universities and NHS partners and an opportunity to contribute at the highest level to all aspects of the School alongside the Dean, Chief Operating Officer and the School’s Management Board. HYMS is undergoing a period of transformation and you will have an opportunity to really make your mark, through the management of a variety of defined projects and change initiatives. You will be responsible for the day to day coordination of the School’s business, working in partnership with a range of University and NHS contacts, with an emphasis on HR.

You will already have experience of working within a university environment and can demonstrate your ability to provide high level executive support. The post demands a flexible approach to work, strong organisational and decision-making skills and the ability to build successful and productive relationships at all levels across the University and NHS. You will lead a small Executive Office team and take overall responsibility for delivering the Executive Office function across the School.

This is a demanding and varied role; you will have strong organisational skills and the ability to multi task whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and meet strict deadlines.  You will have excellent communication skills and be accustomed to building professional relationships with colleagues at all levels.  This role requires you to maintain a level of responsiveness whilst handling changing priorities and demands.

This is a full time post and will be predominantly based in HYMS at either the University of Hull or the University of York, but with an expectation of travel to the other campus for at least 2 days a week by agreement, together with occasional travel to the School’s NHS partners

Salary will be in the range £31,604 - £38,832 a year and the post is offered on an Open contract.

Informal enquiries can be made to Mary Kennedy by telephone +44 (0)1904 321793 or by email

Closing date: 26 November 2017.
