Role Description

IT Services provides IT to the University. We’re about 80 people in a variety of roles from keeping our printers on the road through software development (we have a team of 13 developers), system administrators for over 1,200 hosts, running Windows Server and Linux, and project management.

We’re a highly skilled team, tech led and introducing new methodologies across all our areas. We use test driven agile development with CI, automate our system administration using Puppet and Powershell DSC and are moving into AWS. And of course, we prefer Slack for chat.

We’re looking for an exceptional Windows or VMware server engineer to join the Systems Group. A self-motivated person who enjoys continuously learning new skills, you’ll be part of the team that provides the infrastructure support for the work of the rest of IT Services, using your knowledge of enterprise Windows Server deployments, virtualisation platforms such as Hyper-V or VMware and skills in scripting and automation, you’ll be a key part of the team that manages our VMware vSphere estate, secures systems using VMware NSX micro-segmentation and runs our Windows Server estate and Active Directory.

Informal enquiries should be made to HR Recruitment (email: Arthur Clune, Assistant Director (Infrastructure) at or Mike Donley, Windows & Virtualisation Team Leader at

The salary will be within the range of £31,604-£38,832 per year on an open contract. This is a full time position (37 hours a week) and is available from 1 November 2017. A flexi-time scheme operates which allows for flexible working within operational guidelines.

Closing date: 27 September 2017

The anticipated interview date is 20 October 2017.

It is anticipated that technical tests will take place in advance of formal interviews
