Role Description

The Department of Social Policy & Social Work at the University of York wish to appoint an outstanding candidate to a Senior Lectureship in Social Work. You will bring academic and practice expertise in child and family social work that will complement our existing strengths in the Department.

The Department of Social Policy & Social Work at York was created in 1966 and has established itself as one the leading departments in the field. In the 2014 REF, it was placed in joint first for impact and 3rd overall in the UK, with 54% of its work rated as ‘world leading’.

You will be able to lead our childcare law teaching and our ‘children and families’ option module. An ability to contribute to teaching around research methods and systematic reviewing, and to lead dissertation related training, would be welcomed. Knowledge in child and family social work to design & develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support is essential.

You will have a PhD or equivalent experience, a professional Social Work qualification and be a Registered Social Worker or eligible to register. You should also hold an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.

You will be expected to:

  •  Design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules and/or within a particular programme or subject area.
  •  Lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs and research outcomes.
  •  Contribute to the leadership of our Social Work activity, including the Department’s engagement with the Yorkshire Urban and Rural Teaching Partnership and our local authority partners.

You will be a team player who works collaboratively, flexibly and reliably, and will work alongside an experienced and supportive team of colleagues.

The post is full time and is offered on an open contract basis with a salary in range Senior Lecturer: £48,327 - £55,998 a year (Grade 8)
