Role Description

This is an exciting time for the Finance Department at the University of York. A restructure of our services has led to the formation of teams to provide support to our three faculties, a cluster of Professional Support Services and the wider University.

The University is seeking a Financial Accountant to contribute to the effective and efficient operation of the Corporate Reporting section of the Finance Department.

You will report to the Financial Accountant & Compliance Officer and will line manage two accounts assistants.  You will be heavily involved in the production of monthly and annual accounts for the University which entails close liaison with many parts of the University as well as both internal and external auditors. You will also manage the University risk management processes.

You will demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and be able to grasp a variety of different concepts quickly. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence colleagues at all levels, including those without financial expertise and external contacts. You must be highly motivated to streamline processes by identifying and implementing continuous improvement.

It is essential that you have a recognised UK accountancy qualification (for example ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and be strong technically with up to date knowledge of current and future UK GAAP.  This should include experience of the HE sector and/or working in a professional accountancy firm.
