Role Description

You will support the further development and application of biophysical approaches in immunology in two phases. The Phase I project (months 0-12) will focus on establishing single-molecule imaging to address key questions in host-pathogen interactions led by Prof Mark Leake and co-supervised by Prof Antal Rot. Phase II projects (months 12-18) will directly build on tools and technologies developed in phase I projects and will be awarded on a competitive basis. Specifically the phase I project will focus on the biophysics of chemokine diffusion in the extracellular matrix.  This will involve using a combination of single-molecule imaging and statistical data analysis.

You will have a PhD in biophysics, physics or a biology/microbiology (or will complete this within 6 months of starting the post), as well as previous practical experience in single-molecule imaging technologies, in particular for in vivo optical imaging. Additional experience in data analysis would be desirable.

The research will be conducted in the Department of Biology, which provides state of the art facilities for biophysics related research available through Prof. Leake’s laboratory, and will also make extensive use of the resources on offer in the Biosciences Technology Facility.

The post is available from 30 Sept 2016 and is for up to eighteen months.
