Role Description

EUROTAST is a pan-European research project investigating the history of the transatlantic slave trade and to explore its long-term effects through history, social anthropology, archaeology and population genetics. EUROTAST has prioritised public engagement as a key aspect of its work. As we enter the second phase of the project and EUROTAST begins to produce research results the network seeks to appoint a second ER who will utilise research outcomes to develop public engagement resources and initiatives.

The purpose of this fellowship is to:

• Collaborate with established pedagogical stakeholders to develop an educational resource which integrates EUROTAST research.
• Design and deliver a training opportunity for educators that enables museum practitioners, teachers, and community representatives to explore the history of slavery and its legacies from interdisciplinary perspective.
• Develop and create a mobile exhibition/intervention in physical and/or digital form, which provides unique perspectives and voices on slavery that can be used by museums, heritage institutions and community organisations.
• Identify new sites of memory connected to the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade across the partner countries and develop opportunities for that history to become part of the public narrative.       

You will be expected to have gained a PhD or Masters degree and will have at least four years (but less than five years) of full-time equivalent research experience in a humanities or social science subject investigating an aspect of the transatlantic slave trade and/or its socio-political legacies. 

Experience within the heritage sector (museums, archives, libraries) is highly favoured. You will be able to demonstrate a track record of public engagement. You will bring knowledge of website and social media management and sensitisation to broadcast media. You will have excellent knowledge of English, strong communication and project management skills, and an ability to write with clarity for a non-academic audience.

For those applicants for whom English is not their first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 in each band is required. Please note that language certificates should not be more than two years old.  Knowledge of another European language such as French or Spanish will be preferable, but not essential. To comply with the EU’s mobility requirement, you must not have resided, worked or studied in the country of the host organisation (i.e. the UK) for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to the time of recruitment.
