Role Description

As a result of the award of a prestigious Advanced Researcher Investigator grant from the European Research Council, a multidisciplinary team from the Departments of Archaeology and Chemistry has been established to investigate micromorphological and chemical signatures preserved within the soils of archaeological graves. As a result of the current post-holder leaving to pursue research, there is a vacancy for a technician to support this project.

You will assist in running the micromorphology laboratory and will carry out impregnation and consolidation of soil/sediment samples and preparation of thin sections. You will ensure the effective and efficient operation of the laboratory, including maintenance of the equipment, administering and ordering tasks and will assist, when necessary, in image analysis, in the evaluation of thin sections, elaboration of analytical results, data recording and archiving, and collecting samples from sites. You will also maintain contact, through periodic meetings, with the different sections of the research team.

You will have a Degree in a Science subject, ideally with some knowledge or experience of earth/soil sciences and analysis or image analysis/software. You should have experience of working in a science laboratory environment (preferably competence with a range of equipment, with two years experience), computer literacy, and administrative abilities.

The contract is on a fixed term basis until March 2014.
