Role Description

The Department of Education at the University of York is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow from 1st March 2016, or as soon as possible thereafter. This role has been created to support an innovative international project, entitled Universities Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence (USSSV), which aims to develop and then evaluate training courses for staff who will act as ‘first responders’ to survivors of sexual violence at different universities in England, Italy, Greece, Latvia and Spain.

The Research Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Vanita Sundaram at the University of York to support the development of the training programme. In this role, you will be responsible for collating existing research and best practice on supporting survivors of sexual violence, designing and delivering training to ‘first responder’ staff at the University of York, contributing to the analysis of data on the training programme, and disseminating project findings to international project partners and a wider audience (academic and practitioner). This post offers you an exciting opportunity to contribute to the field of gender-based violence more broadly, and specifically to the development of pioneering ‘first response’ systems for survivors of sexual violence in higher education.

You will have a good knowledge and understanding of key issues and research in the area of gender and sexuality and/or gender-based violence and an understanding of the principles of qualitative research design. A PhD in education, women’s studies or a related discipline is desirable. You must possess excellent communication skills and have the skills required to engage in high quality research both independently and as part of a team.

For working pattern please see attached candidate brief.
