Careers and Placements at the University of York is looking for a Project Officer to lead the coordination of its longstanding York Student Students in Schools (YSIS) programme.
As part of the Community Engaged Learning (CEL) team, you will support students to develop their skills and experience whilst also delivering tangible social benefits. Our offer consists of programmes both in curriculum and extracurricular, such as: York Students in Schools, Community Projects, Sustainability Clinic, and Charity Volunteering.
Each year over 1,400 students engage in CEL activities, meeting the needs of local school and the community needs whilst also contributing to their own personal development.
York Students in Schools is a longstanding programme, first established in 1994 and engages over 500 students annually in a range of placements, tutoring and project based opportunities. The students work with all age ranges from nursery through to secondary school level.
The Careers and Placements team supports the University in its commitment to employability. This requires a willingness to continually innovate in response to changes in the graduate labour market; ensuring that the opportunities to build employability at York are equal to, or better than, those offered at comparable institutions on an international basis.
You will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the YSIS programme. This includes building and maintaining excellent relationships with schools to develop mutually beneficial placements and projects.
You will recruit and support student volunteers, delivering training and ensuring safeguarding requirements are met with the support of the Careers Compliance Administrator. You will have a commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potential, working with colleagues in the University’s Access and Outreach and the PGCE teams and have an interest in measuring the impact of YSIS placements. The post reports directly to the Operations Manager for the Community Engaged Learning Team.
Interview date: to be confirmed (13 February)
For informal enquiries: please contact Jacqui Fountain (Operations Manager) by emailing jacqui.fountain@york.ac.uk.
