The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is a world-leading digital repository which provides digital data archiving services for UK archaeology and heritage. We are based in the King’s Manor in the University of York but we work closely with external partners, both in Higher Education and in the public and commercial archaeological sectors. We are an established component of UKRI’s digital research infrastructure and we are also active in international collaborations, as a leading member of the ARIADNE European Research Infrastructure. As a result of a successful £14.4m bid to AHRC under the RICHeS programme we are now leading a consortium to develop and host a Heritage Science Data Service (HSDS).
The Training Officer will support Dr Nicky Garland (ADS Training and Communications Manager) and Jo Tozer (HSDS Service Manager), and work with our HSDS partners to develop training materials for both the ADS and the HSDS, including text and video resources. They will be expected to promote and deliver a training programme for data depositors and end users, including both online and face-to-face events, with logistical assistance for the organisation and implementation of events provided by the Communications and Training Assistant.
You should have broad knowledge of archaeology, heritage science and conservation and of the key stakeholders in the UK, as well as knowledge of learning principles and facilitation techniques for delivering effective training. You must have an advanced level of digital skills e.g. as an advanced user of GIS, digital imaging or use of coding languages, as well as the ability to present confidently to a variety of academic and professional audiences, at different levels, both in person and online. You should have experience of designing and creating clear and comprehensive training materials such as documentation, tutorials and other media. You must be able to work collaboratively with others, deliver a quality service, and identify and implement continuous improvement. Knowledge of the approaches to information management, including data and metadata standards, interoperability, digital preservation and the FAIR principles would also be desirable.
Interview date: 22nd November 2024
