The School of Physics, Engineering and Technology brings physicists and engineers together to push the frontiers of knowledge, foster innovation and meet the grand challenges facing society. Our aim is to deliver world-leading research in both fundamental and applied areas whilst developing new technologies that work for the public good, in an environment where everyone can thrive.
As a School, equality, diversity, and inclusion are central to our culture and we strive to provide a working environment which allows all staff and students to contribute fully, to flourish, and to excel. We aim to ensure that there is a supportive and egalitarian culture at all levels and across all staff groups and offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, staff engagement forums, campus facilities and services to support staff from different backgrounds.
Working with the staff in the XR Stories team, the Technician in Creative Technologies will be responsible for the day to day running of the XR Stories Studio. They will also be key to working with the businesses and researchers who use the lab, using expertise to support R&D, running demonstrations, engaging visitors, and working with the equipment in the lab to show the capabilities and possibilities of the facility.
We also expect the Technician in Creative Technologies to create exemplar demonstrations of technology and content which could be used to promote our work to the sector. The successful applicant should be willing to learn new technologies and implement ways of engaging businesses and researchers in their use. There will be opportunity for the successful applicant to explore Disguise training to become more familiar with the Lab’s virtual production set-up.
There will also be opportunities to develop and deliver technically-oriented workshops, and deliver these across the North Yorkshire region, as well as in the XR Stories R&D Studio at the Guildhall in York.
