The Student Enterprise Officer works across the University to promote, coordinate and manage the University’s offer to enterprising students; from those with simply interested to those ready to start serious business capable of tremendous growth.
Each year approximately 500 students engage in our enterprise offer of events and support. The aim of these is to provide students with the skills and confidence to start a business now or in the future.
The purpose of this role is to raise awareness of, develop, deliver and facilitate access to the student enterprise programme of activities within Careers and Placements. You will design and deliver a range of enterprise activities and involve academic colleagues, external partners and alumni. You will meet prospective entrepreneurs and support them in their early journey through start up. You will help those with a business plan to access funding, advice, coaching and business space.
You will be a graduate, with an understanding of the principles and practice of business start-up, with an empathetic approach to helping others to realise their ambitions. Ideally you will be familiar with the context of higher education and be confident to design and deliver enterprise learning interventions. You will be committed to continuous improvement and be an effective project manager.
The team is based in Careers and Placements and will also work extensively with other University initiatives, such as Enterprise Works, Phase One and student enterprise societies. This forms part of the University’s commitment to continually innovate in response to changes in the graduate labour market; ensuring that the opportunities to build employability at York are equal to, or better than, those offered at comparable institutions on an international basis.
