Student Administration and Academic Affairs works to enable an excellent experience for students during their time at the University of York. We provide information, advice, guidance and support to students and colleagues across the University, who rely on our expertise and processes to support the student lifecycle. The Special Cases team handles academic appeals and student casework for taught students, as well as providing advice to colleagues across the University on the application of regulation and policy to individual student cases. The team works closely with the University's Special Cases Committee (SCC), preparing cases for consideration by SCC, advising Committee members, and taking some decisions on SCC's behalf. This is an exciting opportunity to join us, working as part of a team of a friendly, expanding team of case officers to progress the caseload of SCC. We are currently recruiting one full-time case officer and one part-time fixed term case officer (0.6 fte).
You will investigate academic appeals and student progress cases, preparing detailed written summaries of these, taking decisions on cases, and presenting complex cases to the team Manager and academic members of the Special Cases Committee. You will have or will gain a good knowledge of the University's regulations and procedures as they apply to students, and be able to apply these to individual student cases. You will communicate with students, staff and other stakeholders verbally and in writing, to provide advice on University procedures as they relate to individual student cases, and to communicate decisions taken on cases with diplomacy and sensitivity. You will also work effectively with other team members, contribute to team projects, and will contribute positively to ongoing process review.
