The University of York is a high-performing university where talented students, inspiring lecturers and world-class researchers thrive. We provide exceptional learning experiences that stay with our students for the rest of their lives, enabling them to flourish within and beyond their studies. Since our foundation in 1963, York’s focus on academic excellence has resulted in a strong reputation across the globe.
The Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities [DTEF] is responsible for ‘providing outstanding work, study, research facilities, and facilities to enhance the student experience, on campus and online’.
This role is part of the Estates Development team who are currently focusing on supporting the realisation of the University Strategy
We have embarked on a major new investment programme in our physical and digital infrastructure, the £500m Integrated Infrastructure Plan. This will see several seminal projects to support our Transformational Initiatives, including a new iconic Student Centre at the heart of the campus, a new home for the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology (PET), and a world-class building to accommodate the new Department of Architecture. This investment and the associated projects will also be integral to the delivery of the University's Sustainability Plan, achieving a pathway to net zero by 2030,
To enable the delivery of the Integrated Infrastructure Plan we are seeking to appoint several important posts within the Estates Development team.
The Senior Project Manager will lead a diverse range of Estates Development projects that emanate from the Integrated Infrastructure Plan. The role will have responsibility for ensuring the quality of design for buildings and landscaping is compliant with the Integrated Infrastructure Plan design briefs, whilst ensuring strategic thought is given to long term planning and design of the University’s estate. Projects vary from complex refurbishment projects through to major redevelopment and new build schemes. The role also gives the chance for an individual to gain leadership experience, with responsibility for leading and managing Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
We are seeking an individual with demonstrable experience of leading mid to large-scale capital projects across technically complex estate portfolios. The role calls for an individual with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, given the diverse array of stakeholders involved in delivering high profile projects across the University campus. It would suit a professional that places a high degree of emphasis on design quality and sustainability.
The role offers the chance to manage a diverse range of industry-leading projects, with high emphasis placed on disruption-free delivery, astute cost management, and timely project completion and handover. The University offers a fantastic benefits package including a generous pension scheme (up to 21.6% employer contribution) and annual leave entitlement (38 days including bank holidays), hybrid working, relocation support, access to campus amenities and much more.
