Become part of Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), an international non-profit research institute tackling global environment and sustainable development challenges. SEI empowers partners through cutting-edge research, knowledge, tools and capacity building. You will join a world-leading organization with around 55 employees at its York Centre at the University of York, with around 300 more across seven global centres. Together, we engage with policy, practice and development action for a sustainable, prosperous future for all.
SEI York is based in the attractive Environment building at the University of York. SEI York has a broad research profile covering 5 main research areas: air quality and climate change; citizen science; critical environmental governance; sustainable consumption and production; and environmental health and well-being. We have a strong academic track record as well as an international reputation of producing highly credible evidence-based science policy research. Over the past few years we have built up an enthusiastic Research Communications Team who are maximising the impactfulness of our research.
As Engagement and Research Communications Manager, your primary role is to lead the communication function within SEI York, which is critical to help us achieve our mission of supportive transformative action for a healthier, fairer and more sustainable future. You will lead our Research Communications Team, supporting the current Communications Specialists and Officer to develop creative and timely content drawn from SEI York’s research, working closely with researchers to understand the audiences they want to reach to maximise impact. You will work to increase SEI’s profile in the UK, and ensure that our work reaches policy-makers and other decision-takers, including governments in the UK and overseas and those involved in international policy processes.
You will be a strong leader with an ability to manage and direct the work of an enthusiastic and creative Communications team to deliver on the Communications Strategy, who are managing complex workloads with competing requests. You will bring experience of working in the science-policy interface, ideally in the environment and development space and in the UK. You will be able to build rapport with people of different backgrounds and experiences, working with them to achieve high impact communications. Your excellent time management, planning and organisational skills will allow you to prioritise communications opportunities as they arise. You will be expected to be on campus at least one day a week.
