We are seeking to appoint a Technician in the Centre for Novel Agricultural Products in the Department of Biology, University of York, to work on Research and Development programmes headed by Professor Ian Graham, aimed at targeted molecular breeding and metabolic engineering of crop plants.
This position represents an excellent opportunity to work on strategically relevant research programmes that rely on state-of-the-art molecular biology technologies. You should be a team worker with attention to detail and have practical experience in a range of molecular biology techniques. Some experience in plant research work is also desirable.
You will support the team in achieving the goals and objectives of the research and breeding programmes, using a broad range of methods and procedures, including sampling and processing of plant material for various downstream applications, DNA and RNA extractions, and genotyping techniques, depending on the requirements of the various objectives. The success of the research is heavily dependent on accurate recording and tracking of information on thousands of plants and associated samples, thus you will ensure that data and records you generate are prepared correctly for upload into our Laboratory Information Management System. You will also assist in the general running of the Graham lab, including maintaining various stocks and ordering consumables.
