The Department of Health Sciences is a large, multi-disciplinary and multi-professional department with over
350 academics, researchers and support staff engaged in delivering research & teaching. In 24/25 the
department had annual research project income of £16.4 million raised almost entirely from external
competitive grant funding from a wide range of funders.
Our core aim is to improve health and healthcare through the delivery of high quality teaching and the
application of challenge-led research to policy and practice. We are committed to underpinning our teaching
with our internationally renowned research. The University has an institutional research strategy to which the
Department contributes by developing six strong and well-resourced research groups.
The Department of Health Sciences wishes to appoint a Research Support Officer to provide pre and post
award research support to the Mental Health and Addictions Research Group (MHARG) along with other
research groups within Health Sciences.
You will work closely with academic staff to provide financial support, costing new research applications and
help to manage the finances of active research projects. You will provide a responsive service and expert
advice on funder regulations and processes and produce accurately costed project budgets whilst coordinating
input from internal and external collaborators.
In this role, you will work closely with the Research Group Lead for MHARG, Principal Investigators (PIs), the
Research Manager, Research Co-ordinator, Research Grant Finance Officers and Research Group Administrators
throughout the department.
It is an exciting opportunity for someone to learn all aspects of front-line research support from the initial
inception of the project to the very end and closure of a grant. You will be part of the Health Sciences and Hull
York Medical School (HYMS) Research Finance Office who will provide you with full support and training in all
aspects of pre and post award support.
