The Department of Archaeology at the University of York is a vibrant community consists of over 100 staff and over 600 UK and international students. We provide international, impact-oriented and interdisciplinary teaching and research of the highest quality. Equality, diversity and inclusion are central to a collegial environment in which staff and students feel supported and valued. BioArCh is a research facility with internationally recognised strengths in the analysis of human, animal and plant remains and molecular techniques — proteins, lipids, DNA and stable isotopes. The facility is a node for the UK's Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science and houses multiple instruments for scientific analysis within archaeology.
Applications are invited for a part-time (0.8 FTE) project manager to work on a 6 year international research project (FORAGER) which aims to “Investigating alternative trajectories for human demographic growth in temperate northern Holocene societies”. Funded by the European Research Council, FORAGER will bring together 37 researchers to study prehistoric hunter-gatherer-fishers from Japan, the Baltic, the Pacific North-west and North-eastern North America synergising a variety of perspectives and methodological approaches.
The role holder will assist four PIs in all aspects of project management to ensure the success of FORAGER, working at the UoY’s BioArCh centre day-to-day with the corresponding PI Oliver Craig, but with the expectation of travel where necessary to help implement the project. They will be assisted by a separate project administrator (Cambridge), a data manager (Montana), and the UoY’s post-award team. The PM will have excellent organisational and team working skills. While no knowledge of the research topic is required, there will be an opportunity to engage with the broad context of the research. Knowledge of the European funding regulations is useful but not essential.
When appointing to this role the University must ensure that it meets any applicable immigration requirements, including salary thresholds which are applicable to some visas. It may not be possible to offer Skilled Worker sponsorship for this role.
