The York-JEOL Nanocentre (NC) is the flagship facility at the University of York, world-renowned for developing and advancing the field of environmental transmission electron microscopy (ETEM). The NC enables interdisciplinary research across the physical sciences and engineering. It plays an integral role in training undergraduates through Master’s and PhD projects in the fields of materials and condensed matter physics, biophysics, chemistry, and engineering.

Role

• Contribute to and/or lead on the production of research outputs and outcomes.
• Participate actively in the planning and management of research projects, including supervising the work of others and providing expert advice and guidance.
• Contribute to and/or lead the obtaining of external research funding.
• Contribute to public understanding of research and scholarship.  
• Contribute and lead the development of in-situ/operando electron microscopy and related experimental techniques 

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will have:

• A PhD and undergraduate degree in Physics, or equivalent experience
• Specialist IT skills and expertise in TEM/STEM data analysis
• Experience in environmental in‑situ/operando research
• Strong knowledge of vacuum techniques
• A track record of developing vacuum equipment and instrumentation for electron microscopy.
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience in effective project management and supervising teams
• A collaborative ethos
• Strong prioritisation skills
• Commitment to public engagement
• Teaching and training experience.
