Following a major review of the University's research support services, a new, integrated structure has been established that creates a single, interconnected institution-wide community of practice, delivering operational research services
through a line management structure that links back to the RIKE directorate. The new structure is built around three faculty-facing teams that provide end-to-end operational support for externally-funded research, throughout the project
lifecycle.
The support provided by the end-to-end support team covers the following three areas of activity:
As part of a Faculty team, work collaboratively and flexibly to share best practice, develop faculty wide approaches, provide support for team members and cover for absences.
Environment and development: Support strategic thinking and the development of new research and related activities within a portfolio of departments/schools. Identify and engage with opportunities to maintain and develop departmental research strengths, and foster new ones. Work with management and support teams at departmental and faculty level to create and maintain a positive and supportive research culture.
Pre Award: Work flexibly to provide a responsive service to assist academic staff in the preparation and submission of more complex (e.g. due to value, the number and type of collaborators, overseas currencies, PI experience) research and research related grant applications, in line with university and funder requirements. Provide expert advice on regulations and processes, and produce accurately costed project budgets, coordinating input from internal and external collaborators. Liaise with colleagues and proactively coordinate processes, for example for match funding and letters of support, and ensure internal deadlines for institutional sign-off are met. Check all documentation and use funder online portals to submit applications in a timely fashion. The postholder will provide advice and support for more junior team members to resolve issues, provide oversight to ensure work in line with standard process and act as an additional point of contact to prioritise workload.
This role is available on a part time (29.6 hours per week) basis.
