Role Description

The University of York School for Business and Society (SBS) is a newly formed interdisciplinary department, bringing together two growing and successful departments: the University of York Management School and the Department of Social Work and Social Policy.

We have an ambitious vision to become the natural home within the UK for world-leading social policy and social care scholars who work alongside experts in other academic disciplines as well as their own. We actively encourage and help our colleagues to collaborate widely across campus and beyond.

The Role
We are seeking to appoint a new Research Professor/Reader to our dynamic and buoyant social care research group. Fundamental to this core group are underpinning programmes of work such as The NIHR School for Social Care Research membership and the Curiosity Partnership. This group collaborates extensively across the School, Faculty and wider Institution with strong collaborations with other national and international researchers and practitioners. Your role will be to provide leadership and direction to the group aimed at the delivery of high-quality research. You will be joining a thriving community of academics who are leaders in their fields, and who are committed to excellence in research and research impact.

Key requirements:

  • PhD in relevant subject area or commensurate experience
  • Outstanding achievements in research at a national and internationally relevant level
  • Significant academic publication record
  • Substantial evidence of leadership in research, including postgraduate research supervision
  • Evidence of a significant record of sustained research funding
  • Proven research management and leadership experience at a senior level
  • A strong personal commitment to equality, and diversity and inclusion

About the School
The formation of SBS signals a distinctive new approach towards conducting social policy and management/business research and teaching in the UK higher education sector.  We are uniquely placed to lead business and public policy action to tackle complex social and environmental societal problems. The combined school provides a unique opportunity to pioneer an interdisciplinary collaborative strategy for public good. This will empower and inspire our students and staff to make positive social and environmental change. https://www.york.ac.uk/business-society/
