Department
As a Research Associate you will be based at the Department of Health Sciences and work with Professor Kamran Siddiqi on a public health randomised controlled trial funded by the Joint Global Health Trials Scheme. The project ‘Children Learning About Second-hand Smoke’ (CLASS III) will address environmental tobacco smoke exposure in children in Bangladesh and Pakistan, thereby improving their health and preventing premature deaths and disabilities.
The post offers the opportunity to be part of a large, successful multi-disciplinary Department, renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to policy and practice relevant teaching and research across a broad range of health-related disciplines. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team with expertise in a range of methodologies that underpin applied health research. There are also exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary research with an extensive network of academic partners in Bangladesh and Pakistan, including the ARK Foundation, Dhaka and Aga Khan University, Karachi.

Role
You will coordinate and manage the CLASS III trial under supervision and contribute to study outputs.
Your duties will include: analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods; writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement and outreach activities; contributing to the identification of possible new areas of research. You will be expected to develop research protocols, research tools and ethics application. Coordination study with partners in Bangladesh and Pakistan may require one or two overseas field visits.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
Applications are invited from outstanding individuals with demonstrable ability and interest in global public health and tobacco control research. Knowledge of a range of research methodologies, and evaluative designs (including mixed methods) used in public health is essential. Candidates with expertise and interest in policy research, use of mixed-methods design and implementation science, are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have a PhD, and track record of applied global health research preferably within the field of tobacco control, along with demonstrated ability to manage projects and generate high quality research outputs. You will have highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide-ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media and have the ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination.
