We are a research-led department. We have high-calibre staff who produce innovative and technically demanding research on a world stage spanning areas in pure and applied mathematics and statistics. York has an established track record of high quality research in quantum technologies; it is host to the York Centre for Quantum Technologies, a cross-departmental initiative which sits at the heart of the University's drive for excellence in quantum science. York is also the lead node of the Quantum Communications Hub, a major collaboration brought together to accelerate the development and commercialisation of quantum secure communications.
The Department of Mathematics is seeking a talented new colleague to join our thriving Mathematical Physics and Quantum Information group. You will be engaging in high-level research combining mathematics and quantum technologies and have a strong track record of obtaining funding for your research, as well as the capacity to form interdisciplinary collaborations and engage with industry. You will have a track record of supervising PhD students and be a dedicated and effective teacher of mathematics, able to teach a range of courses in applied mathematics and to supervise MSc projects.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in Mathematics or a related discipline. You will have outstanding and internationally recognised knowledge of Quantum Information Theory, bringing new expertise in quantum computation or another quantum technology to deepen the Department’s existing strength in quantum communications. Along with the ability to define, lead and attract funding for internationally excellent research in this area, you will have a substantial publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals and the ability to design teaching material and deliver a range of modules. We are also looking for a member of staff with a collaborative ethos and a strong personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
