Role Description
Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science offers Masters programmes delivered 100% online, designed for working professionals and graduates who may not currently have a computer science background and want to launch their career in this in-demand and lucrative field. Our online programmes allow students to study around work and home commitments, at different times and locations.
Working closely with the Deputy Head of Faculty Operations and the senior academics within the Online Programmes team, the post holder will be responsible for the quality assurance of the online provision, provide leadership to inform course development and academic assessment, oversee student experience and support the development and delivery of objectives defined as a department responsibility in University, faculty and department strategic plans.
Role
Generic responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the coordination and servicing of department level committees and groups, steering deliberations, providing expert advice and identifying next steps and actions.
- Providing leadership and advice to relevant PSS and academic staff, setting standards, supporting team members, and engaging staff in delivering improvement that aligns to the University’s and Department’s strategies and objectives.
Academic Services & Student Experience:
- Overall responsibility for the excellent day-to-day running of department level student support services, and a wider remit to collaborate with services across the university that support different aspects of the student journey.
- Lead, as required, the administration of key academic activities for the Department (engagement monitoring, module evaluation, module choice, programme development, etc).
- Lead, organise and provide specialist advice and support in delivering teaching and learning review activities, including data analysis, with effective action planning to address student feedback.
- Be responsible for delivering a responsive, proactive and high-quality level of service to ensure that all staff and students have access to the right information, advice and guidance from pre-entry to graduation.
Quality Assurance:
- Working together with the Department and Online Programmes Leadership teams to shape, develop and implement quality assurance and review processes to ensure the quality and standards of the University’s taught programmes.
- Plan and deliver the analysis and monitoring of service delivery, using relevant management information and data to identify impact and trends, identify and address risks and barriers to efficient, effective and consistent service delivery.
- Identify, lead and manage the proposal, development and implementation of enhancements to the quality assurance function through the consideration of strategic initiatives, plans, policy developments and procedures.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- Level 3 qualification. We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-uk qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
- A thorough understanding of the principals involved in service provision and office management within a large, complex organisation
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail with the ability to pre-empt opportunities and challenges to ensure services run as effectively as possible.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to think strategically and creatively and experience of designing solutions.
- Lead projects

- Use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office
- Works collaboratively with others
