The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is a highly respected international research organisation conducting policy-relevant environmental and sustainable development research around the world. We are recruiting a Public Engagement Coordinator to grow our team of dedicated professional support staff at our York centre.
SEI York has a broad research profile covering five main research areas: air quality and climate change; critical environmental governance; sustainable consumption and production; urban environments, human health, and wellbeing; and citizen science. We aim to ensure that there is a supportive culture at all levels and across all staff groups and offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies and flexible working arrangements.
At SEI York we make every effort to conduct our work in line with the University's Sustainability Plan. We firmly believe in working in a resource-efficient manner, minimising impacts on the environment wherever possible. We have an Environment Rep and a Green Impact Team in the Centre who support staff in this endeavour.
As a Public Engagement Coordinator, you will support an exciting new citizen science project, Action for Quality Aquatic environments (AQuA), funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), in which members of the public will carry out monitoring of water quality in Yorkshire’s rivers and lakes. In this role, your time will be split between office-based and field work, and you will be part of our Citizen Science Research Group, which currently has around 10 staff and PhD students.
As a public engagement coordinator your primary responsibilities will include:
Engaging with project volunteers (citizen scientists) both in person and online, using a variety of different channels
Supporting project relationship building with community groups, specifically currently under-represented groups
Supporting delivery of volunteer training
Assisting with the development of volunteer facing communications assets for the project
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organised public engagement coordinator with:
A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Yorkshire to conduct in person engagement with community groups
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of people
Attention to detail
Ability to plan and organise own workload, manage multiple tasks and work flexibly to achieve deadlines
Interview date: To be confirmed
For informal enquiries: please contact Lucy Way on lucy.way@york.ac.uk.
