Role Description

The University of York exists for public good. Enquiring minds, inspirational teaching, pioneering research, global ambition, local commitment, and social purpose are the foundations which underpin that commitment at our university. A University for Public Good

Following a period of sustained growth, and as part of significant further investment, the University of York School for Business and Society (SBS) is seeking to further expand its academic research and teaching strengths in management, business, accounting and finance.

As part of this process, we are looking to appoint to a number of Professors/Readers in the following areas:

  • Accounting
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Strategy/Marketing/International Business/Operations Management or HR Management

The School
As a new department at York, SBS signals a distinctive approach towards conducting management and social policy research and teaching.  We are uniquely placed to lead business and public policy action to tackle complex social and environmental grand challenges and have an ambitious vision to become the natural home within the UK for world-leading management scholars who work alongside experts in other academic disciplines as well as their own. This interdisciplinary approach, we believe, enriches the vibrancy and relevance of our research and our teaching.  At York, we place heavy emphasis on providing a high-quality student experience and have pioneered innovations in on-line learning and teaching related scholarship.

We welcome applications from excellent candidates who embrace our vision and passion for advancing sustainable business, community and society. You will be joining a thriving community of academics who are leaders in their fields, and who are committed to excellence in research, teaching and outreach. We have established a strong track record of publishing in internationally excellent journals, receiving major indicators of academic esteem, and leading large UKRI funded projects that are delivering significant real-world impact.

Management research at SBS is currently organised around a number of cross cutting themes  and two main subject groups: People, Operations and Marketing (POM) group and Work, Management and Organisation group.

We particularly welcome applications from female candidates, and candidates from minority ethnic backgrounds, who are under-represented at senior academic levels in the University.

Closing Date: 02 April 2023
Interviews: see individual candidate brochures

Please direct informal enquiries to Dean of School, Professor Bob Doherty (sbs-dean@york.ac.uk).

The University strives to be diverse and inclusive  – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.

We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
