The Department of English and Related Literature seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Nineteenth-Century Literature. Scholars who identify as Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic or Global Majority are strongly encouraged to apply as they are currently under-represented within the Department.
We will particularly welcome applications from candidates working on Victorian fictional or non-fictional prose. Expertise in any of the following areas may also be an advantage: theatre/performance studies; queer studies; disability studies; medical humanities; race; the global nineteenth century.
The successful candidate will join one of the world’s leading English departments, which boasts an outstanding research record, a distinctive international outlook, and a deep-rooted commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. Candidates who have the ability to work in a language other than English are warmly encouraged to apply, in keeping with the Departments’ commitment to multilingualism and world literatures.
We are happy to consider applications for part-time working, where that suits the circumstances and preferences of the applicant.
The successful candidate will teach students across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including our prestigious MA in Victorian Literature. You will contribute to the teaching of nineteenth-century literature across the degree programme and will contribute to the curriculum more widely as required. The appointee will undertake PhD supervision as appropriate. You will be a champion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and will contribute to our ongoing project to decolonise and diversify the curriculum and Department.
