The Department of History is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in late Medieval history (c.1300-c.1500), focussing particularly (but not exclusively) on English archival resources. Applicants whose work addresses gender and sexualities may be preferred.
The post is offered on an open contract from September 2023.
You should have a PhD in an area of history relevant to the post and ideally hold an appropriate teaching qualification. Applicants will have a strong publication record commensurate with their career stage, and be able to demonstrate the potential for grant capture. A capacity to develop knowledge exchange and impact will be desirable.
The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for, and experience of, designing and delivering modules informed by their research interests. The Department, in preparation for semesterisation in September 2023, is currently revising all our portfolios. Applicants should seek to demonstrate how their interests and experience would contribute to one or more of our Stage One World History modules, our existing range of Stage Three Special Subjects (undergraduate) and our Taught Postgraduate programmes and options (postgraduate).
Academic staff in the Department are internationally renowned for their research. We are active participants in the interdisciplinary Centre for Medieval Studies and, in the Borthwick Institute for Archives, possess unique research collections.
The Department expects all colleagues to strive for a working and learning environment that is welcoming, fair, and inclusive for staff and students. Applications from women, people from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, and under-represented communities will be welcomed. We also consider applications for flexible working. #EqualityatYork
