The Department of History of Art at York is one of the largest and most vibrant in the UK, with academic colleagues researching across different media, in periods ranging from antiquity to the present. We teach undergraduate and postgraduate students across a broad range of programmes, with an emphasis on small-group teaching, first-hand encounters with art, and equality of opportunity. We coordinate extensive research and teaching partnerships with major national and regional museums and heritage organisations through York Art History Collaborations.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Departments of Archaeology and History of Art at the University of York as a Lecturer in Historic Buildings, Conservation and Stained Glass. Available on either a Teaching & Scholarship or Teaching & Research contract on a full-time basis from February 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter, this role will advance our long partnership in delivering the MA in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management through innovative, interdisciplinary practice.
In this role, you will contribute to world-leading research and teaching in Archaeology, lead modules on analysing historic buildings, and supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD research. As Director of Studies for Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management, you will oversee the delivery and future development of the Stained Glass programme in History of Art, establish a new teaching studio, and launch new public-facing initiatives, while strengthening our vital partnerships with the York Glaziers Trust and York Minster.
You will lead the world's only dedicated postgraduate programme in Stained Glass Conservation within our renowned suite of Archaeology and History of Art degrees, connecting with a global alumni network at the forefront of heritage conservation.
