You will be working on an exciting ESRC-funded project, aimed at testing a novel intervention to help babies with Down syndrome to be more vocal and practice making language sounds. The ultimate aim is to see if this would help them start to talk earlier and learn words more quickly. The intervention is delivered by caregivers in the home through an iPad app for babies called BabblePlay. BabblePlay encourages babies to make more sounds with their voice, thus supporting improved language proficiency later, and with it an enhancement to their and their families’ quality of life.
You will be working with an interdisciplinary team of linguists, psychologists, singing scientists and statisticians from the University of York, the University of Manchester and the charity Down Syndrome Education International.
You will receive training in the protocol and the technical set-up of the ipads and recorders. The role involves recruitment of participants and managing databases, communicating with families and guiding them through all stages of the study, handling equipment deliveries to and from participants, handling participant payments, and further tasks, as required.
Any other duties that fall within the scope of the job, as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder
