This role sits within the IT Services department, which provides outstanding work, study, and research facilities, as well as facilities to enhance the student experience, both on campus and online. The Research and Faculty IT team support teaching and research within the University. This can range from 1:1 specialist support, helping users access all of our research systems to assisting with new applications.
Reporting to the Head of Research and Faculty IT, the role requires close collaboration with colleagues across IT Services and the University to ensure our departmental embedded support services are: responsive, knowledge led, integrated and that high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained.
You will work with the team leaders to identify opportunities to deliver a more efficient service in a research and teaching context, and provide joined-up end-to-end IT in that environment. You will work closely with academics to understand their needs, and translate these into solutions that scale. You must also be passionate about the benefits of technology, and will consider opportunities for AI, automation and process improvement.
The core aim of the Research and Faculty IT team is to provide IT for academic departments that support teaching and research at the University of York.
The team supports key technologies including the support, management and development of Windows desktops across the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Social Sciences, this is a hand-on technical role with additional responsibility for supporting modernisation and ensuring excellent service delivery. The team leader will work closely with other parts of the Research and Faculty IT team as well as other teams with IT Services and contribute to detailed planning in conjunction with the Head of Group.
In this role you will help to drive the vision for IT support for teaching, learning and administration at the University to ensure we can deliver the services needed. Enthusiasm to support IT for research and teaching within a University environment
Practical experience of operational support in a modern managed desktop environment
Good customer service skills
A passion for new technologies and how they can enhance research and teaching at the university.

Salary and benefits
£46,049 - £56,535
Some Hybrid working expectation of three days on site (between home & office)
30 days annual leave (38 including bank holidays)
