Are you looking for a career where your presence provides peace of mind and your actions can turn someone’s day around?
The University of York is evolving. We are moving away from outdated security stereotypes toward a proactive, community-first approach. We aren’t just looking for "guards"; we are looking for professionally curious, empathetic individuals who want to be the face of safety for our global student and staff community.
Experience is preferred, however: We hire for attitude, not just a CV. If you have the right mindset, we provide full training and professional development.
Exceptional Benefits: Enjoy 38 days of holiday (including bank holidays), a generous pension scheme, a cycle-to-work program, and discounted onsite gym memberships.
State-of-the-Art Facilities: Work from our brand-new Campus Safety Hub, utilizing modern technology to keep our community secure.
A Support Network: Join an inclusive team that values diversity and acts as a genuine support system for one another.
Room to Grow: With multiple vacancies now and more planned for later this year, your career path starts here.
In this role, no two days are ever the same. You will be the first point of contact for:
Wellbeing & Support: Assisting students with social or mental health concerns.
Medical Response: Providing a calm voice and a helping hand during emergencies.
Community Engagement: Building rapport with a diverse student body and promoting safety at university events.
Problem Solving: Using your intuition and communication skills to de-escalate complex situations.
We are looking for "people people" who are:
Excellent Communicators: Able to talk to everyone, from a stressed-out student to a senior professor.
Resilient & Flexible: You stay calm under pressure and can adapt quickly to changing environments.
True Team Players: You genuinely care about helping others and are willing to go the extra mile because it’s the right thing to do.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so please apply early! Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview while the advert is still live.
