The Biological Services Facility (BSF) within the Department of Biology is seeking to appoint an Animal Technician. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a professional to advance their career in the field of animal husbandry and transgenic science.
You will make a major contribution to the technical excellence and successful performance of the BSF. You will be responsible for undertaking operational husbandry duties as part of the BSF team whilst working in compliance with standard operating procedures.
You will assist in the overall operation of the animal facility including wild type and transgenic mouse colonies, rodents and Xenopus. The role includes animal husbandry duties such as feeding and watering, cleaning and washing of cages/tanks. You will be responsible for the weaning of transgenic and wild type mouse colonies, genotyping sampling, user audits, and assisting with Home Office procedures as and when required.
You will be educated to IAT Level 2, be willing to work towards IAT Level 3, have relevant animal experience and hold a Home Office Personal license. You will be conversant with all aspects of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (Amended 2012).

Hours of work are 37 hours per week. Salary will be in the range £24,285 - £27,131 on grade 4 of the University’s salary scale. Weekend and Bank Holiday working as part of a rota basis will be required. This appointment will be offered on a permanent basis.
