Role Description


This is an exciting time for the Access and Outreach team as we support the University's renewed focus on widening access, building on our founding principles of social purpose, equality, diversity and inclusion. 

You will be joining a Department with a central goal, and a team of enthusiastic, experienced and committed colleagues. We are seeking new members of the team who will be equally committed to our goal of widening access and increasing diversity and will contribute to the success of our Access and Outreach strategy.


In this role, you will support the development and delivery of programmes, events and activities both locally and across the UK, to support widening access in higher education and at the University of York. This will involve the delivery of existing programmes and the development of new innovative initiatives that meet the objectives set out in the University vision, our Access and Outreach strategy and our Access and Participation Plan. You will have the opportunity to contribute new ideas and gain significant experience in impactful access and outreach work.

Your particular focus will be on project evaluation and project coordination including leading on our evaluation framework and data collection methods. You will be key in supporting team coordination, finance monitoring and strategic project coordination. You will also work closely with senior leaders to facilitate rapid improvement to the systems and processes that underpin our work.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You should be educated to Degree level (or have an equivalent professional qualification or relevant experience), you will be highly organised; and possess outstanding communication skills, including delivering projects which include internal and external stakeholders. 

We expect to appoint at £26,341 which is on grade 5 of the University’s salary scales (£26,341 - £32,344). This position is fixed term until 31st July 2023.

You should have experience in a similar role with a willingness to innovate and take a proactive role in the team. You should possess strong organisational skills, excellent analytical skills and a creative approach to problem solving. Proven experience in project coordination is essential, preferably with a knowledge of systems development, process analysis and data collection.

Condition of Employment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form.

Appointment of the successful candidate will be conditional on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

This post is available on a fixed term basis until 31st July 2023 and may be suitable as a secondment opportunity for current University of York staff. Applications for secondment opportunities would need the agreement of your current line manager.
