The post is to work as part of the Biology Technical Operations Team, who work across the sixteen Biology buildings providing technical support to the Department of Biology, HYMS (research), YSBL and any other residing staff/students. You will be an experienced manager who can apply their knowledge and expertise.
As the Deputy Operations Manager you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the professional structure in the Biology Department, negotiating with senior management, research groups, service contactors, Estates, and other central University teams.
Your role will be instrumental in developing the departmental technical teams, services, and equipment, to support the research and teaching activities of Biology, HYMS, YSBL and other, in achieving their goals.
The biology buildings provide 17,000m2 of teaching and research space for 1,100 students and 350 staff incorporating more than 75 academic research groups.
The post holder will manage the infrastructure team (currently four members of staff) who undertake various tasks, including the provision of a centralised autoclave and glasswash service and maintenance of and training on departmental equipment. The new post holder will develop provision of a media kitchen and line manage the media kitchen technician. The post holder acts as faculty coordinator of the equipment service contracts held across the science faculty departments for equipment that must be serviced and inspected under statutory law.
